The ABC of John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry. Working on his doctoral thesis in theoretical physics at the University of Wisconsin in 1929, the young John Vincent Atanasoff (see biography of John Atanasoff) the first time met a serious computational problem, being forced to perform complex calculations, using computing tools like slide rule and mechanical calculator Monroe type

It was designed in 1937. It was not able to be programmed, and it was designed only to solve groups of linear equations. It was successfully tested in 1942. It was very amazing technology for the time. It was the first machine to use many important things used in modern computing.

John Vincent Atanasoff is known as the father of the computer. With the help of one of his students Clifford E. Berry, in Iowa State College, during the 1940s, he created the ABC (Atanasoff-Berry Computer) that was the first electronic digital computer. John Vincent Atanasoff was born in Hamilton, New York on 4 of October 1903. The Atanasoff – Berry Computer (ABC) was the first electronic computer, designed and built by Lowa State College Mathematics and Physics professor John Vincent Atanasoff and his assistant, Clifford E. Berry ( a graduate student) . They worked in the basement of the physics building at Lowa State College on the computer from 1939 until 1942 when it Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC)After calculators and tabulators used for mathematical and statistical calculations became widely spread there appeared a need 2021-03-17 · Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) (reconstruction) Engineers at Iowa State University built this working reconstruction of the Atanasoff-Berry Computer between 1994 and 1997. It is slightly smaller than the original, which was too wide to fit through a standard door— one reason why the original was not preserved. O Atanasoff-Berry Computer também conhecido como ABC, foi o primeiro computador a usar válvulas termiônicas, inventado por John Atanasoff e Clifford Berry em 1939.

Atanasoff Berry Computer The Atanasoff Berry Computer, later named the ABC, was built at Iowa State University from 1939-1942 by physics professor Dr. John Vincent Atanasoff and his graduate student, Clifford Berry. John Vincent Atanasoff conceived basic design principles for the first electronic-digital computer in the winter of 1937 and, assisted by his graduate student, Clifford E. Berry, constructed a prototype here in October 1939. It used binary numbers, direct logic for calculation, and a regenerative memory.

At the time, Atanasoff called his invention simply a computing machine, but, years later, he decided to give it a catchier name – the ABC, for Atanasoff-Berry Computer.
